Understudy
Product Details
Inspired by the luminous skies of Cerise's memories in southern France, Under Study captures the moment where land and sky dissolve into one another. Rooted in Romanticism yet moving toward abstraction, the painting features a cooler, more atmospheric counterpart to the Masterpiece, featuring reds and pinks.

Artist
Cerise Washington
Cerise Washington is a British artist celebrated for her painterly abstraction inspired by J.M.W. Turner’s landscapes. Her work, often nodding to Impressionism, is defined by expressive impasto brushwork, a subtle yet varied use of colour, and an emphasis on atmospheric light. Through layered pigments and intuitive mark-making, she captures depth, movement, and emotion with a distinctive sense of timelessness.
After earning a degree in Graphic Design and a successful career as an Art Director in the Middle East, Cerise returned to London to study Contemporary Art at Christie’s. Her fascination with Turner continues to inform her practice, which has been exhibited internationally — including at the World Trade Centre in Dubai, where her paintings were presented to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, as well as in Covent Garden, Oxford, Wimbledon, and Tooting. Her work has been described as “monumental” and “masterfully communicating a historic feel” due to her sensitivity to light and form.
Over the past 15 years, Cerise has collaborated with interior designers in the UK, the Middle East, and the U.S., creating bespoke works for luxury interiors. Her art has been commissioned by celebrities and CEOs, and is held in private collections and homes across Dubai, Paris, America, and London. Her practice extends across canvas, silk, and now upholstery fabrics, tailored to each client’s aesthetic vision.
Cerise’s work has been featured in international publications including Yachting Insider Magazine, Elle Decor Middle East, and Art and Museum Magazine, and she has been invited to share her artistic journey on several podcasts.
